Baptism
Walk in Jesus' footsteps

Baptism in this Church is available to those who have attained an age at which they can make a personal confession of Christ and understand the consequences of a life discipled in the teachings of Christ.

Baptism is by full water immersion. We hold baptismal services throughout the year and prior to baptism you will speak to one of the Pastoral team to ensure that you fully understand the purpose and commitment of baptism. During the baptismal service, you may be asked to give a brief testimony of what God has done in your life, and you will be asked to confirm your commitment to Jesus Christ. After this, the Pastoral team conducting the baptism will fully immerse you in water. There is a pool at the Church specifically for this purpose. Baptism is a big step in your Christian walk. It should be undertaken after prayerful consideration and Pastoral counselling. You are encouraged to invite your family and friends to join you at the service. They will be made most welcome and the purpose of baptism will be explained as part of the service.

The following scriptures speak of baptism:

Col 2 vs 12

Buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

Matthew 28 vs 19
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4 vs 5
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

Acts 2 vs 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Apostles Creed is often called The Baptismal Creed.

When someone became a Christian in the fourth century great significance was attached to his or her baptism. During the period of Lent, those who had recently come to faith were given instruction in Christian beliefs, finally, when they had mastered the basics of faith, they believed faith had been reinforced with understanding. Baptism was a public demonstration of a believers death to the world and birth to a New Life in Jesus Christ.

“Each candidate had to confess their belief in the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and their belief in the Gospel” – Alister McGrath ‘I Believe’ Exploring the Apostles Creed.

If you would like to be baptised, please contact the Church office on 0121 711 7300.
