Kenya
Peter and Wendy Earle - ran an an outreach programme that targetted 20 children and their families in the needy community of Buru Buru - a slum in Nairobi. The children are either orphans or in vulnerable home situations. Some of their parents have HIV and/or TB, most are single parent/carer households and are very poor. Most of the families live in a 10ft x 10 ft room with some or all of the family sleeping in the same bed! The programme has included providing a lunchtime meal and during the holidays a ‘Sunday school’ style club with praise & worship, memory verses, teachings, fun activities and then lunch.
Our desire is to support the most vulnerable families and empower them, showing them the love and compassion of Christ, whilst avoiding issues of dependency on us - not an easy task!

In December 2009, Althea Greenaway and Elaine Gordon, members of the Renewal Congregation, flew out to Kenya to visit the Earles and spend some time helping them with their work. It is through trips such as this that we can help to raise awarenewss of the plight of so many people - and demonstrate that even small changes really do make a BIG difference.
