I went to the Punjab with Danny Choranji and the team from CVC the Voice Asia. It was our annual road show when we invite our radio listeners to come together. This time was different!
A few weeks before, in Orissa, Christians had been accused of murdering a Hindu leader and as a result Orissa suffered massive anti Christian demonstrations. Paul O’Connor (from Renewal) had come with me and wondered what on earth had hit him!
We were caught up in this and were provided with 70 security guards and 200 police to guarantee our safety. My name was in the front of the newspaper in huge bold letters and I thought it was a way of welcoming me! In fact it was saying I was not to be allowed to preach the gospel.
When we went to Amritsar the home of the golden temple the most holy place in the Sheikh religion thousands turned out but it began to rain. I was not allowed to stand on the stage or preach the gospel but no one said I could not pray. We began to walk around the field in the pouring rain asking God to prove He answers prayer and stop the rain. My security guards had to walk with me in the pouring rain.
Something amazing happened.
It stopped raining the clouds moved away the sun came out and 200 police and 70 security guards saw for themselves our God is a living God and He does answer prayer. That was the best sermon I never preached.
Our School continues to be full and we are giving education to children in the village who are so poor they would have to real hope. We provide them with uniforms and a meal every day and although we are surrounded by 7 Hindu temples are showing the love of Christ in such a practical way to these children.
We visited the children’s home our Asian Church ( The Sanctuary Church) is building and are expecting to open it before the end of 2009. You can see a video clip of the Children’s home on this site.
Why not plan to come on a mission trip and see for yourself what God is doing through our Church?
