We realise that we don’t fit the ‘traditional’ idea of church - the one where you sit in the cold, on a hard seat and stay very quiet. But we believe that worship is a celebration - and our beliefs are ones to be joyful about. We’re a family church, with a huge congregation - 2000 people regularly attend on a Sunday morning, split between two services, one at 9.00 am and the other at 11.15.
We describe our Sunday services as Teaching and Celebration family services. That’s because we preach strong doctrine and you will genuinely embark on a journey of discovery when you join us. And, of course, our services are designed for all the family. Some parts are serious, some are celebration. We’ve got a sense of humour, too, and we expect you to leave us feeling revitalised, refreshed and renewed!
A typical Sunday morning.
The doors are open. There are a lot of people milling around the large foyer - the shop is open, the information desk is manned and several other desks have people chatting by them.
The ‘Helping Hands’ trolley is being filled with tinned foods - our congregation each bring a few tins each week - and by doing this, our own charity ‘Helping Hands’ feeds 3000 families in need every year within Solihull.
Pastor Dave is chatting to everyone, telling jokes and generally making everyone feel welcome - his energy is astonishing.
Allan, our steward, is beaming - welcoming everyone as they arrive. He looks out for unfamiliar faces so that he can especially welcome them, and guide them around the church. The band are on stage and you can hear the music beginning. The production team are in place - ready to run the lighting, sound and videos that will help to add to the service today.
The worship team burst in to song. Many people are already seated - or standing and singing along. It’s all very informal and relaxed. Everyone then joins in the worship. Pastor Dave has been bouncing up and down in front of the stage - singing at the top of his voice. Now, he gets up on to the stage, welcomes everyone and begins the teaching. At some point, he’ll take a break - and ‘Church News’ will appear on the screens - a great way to find out about what’s happening at Church and up-coming events. The service continues with more worship and communion.
During the service, children (of varying ages) participate in our children’s activity programme, called ‘Faithbuilders’.. a great way to have fun and learn!
After the service, some people go for coffee or Sunday lunch in our own Coffee Shop - Wilsdon’s. Others get together for fellowship within their ‘Connect’ groups - and others simply go home to family life.
